Problem

I noticed that when people share outfit photos on Instagram, followers often ask 'where is this from?' in the comments and rarely get a clear answer. I researched existing solutions like LTK, but found their interface cluttered and hard to navigate. That gap - a simple way to tag and discover individual clothing items from shared looks became the starting point for Chiqi

Solution

I explored a few directions, a separate product catalog, a browser extension, a tagging system within posts, and landed on in-post tagging because it keeps the experience native to how people already browse outfits, without adding extra steps. The core feature lets users tag individual items within a shared look, turning it into something searchable and saveable

Design process

User research

I combined three research methods: user interviews, Instagram observation, and Reddit research. These insights revealed recurring needs around saving inspiration, organizing looks, finding items, and keeping track of personal outfits – each directly informing a key product feature.

Information architecture

The information architecture shows how the app’s content and features are organized – from onboarding to key sections such as Home, Search, Outfits, Bookmarks, and Profile – creating a clear and intuitive navigation structure.

Brand colors and typography

The vibrant purple reflects the brand’s bold, expressive personality, balanced by a clean neutral palette. Black serves as the primary backdrop, allowing fashion photography and visual content to stand out with greater contrast and impact. Strong display typography adds a distinctive, fashion-forward character, while minimal supporting typefaces keep the experience clear and modern.

Onboarding

Onboarding is the user's first interaction with the app, designed to create a strong first impression and provide a simple, intuitive process for personalizing their experience

Home

In the Home tab, users can browse posts from people they follow alongside personalized recommendations, creating a balance between familiar inspiration and fresh discovery that keeps them engaged and inspired.

Collections

Users can save anything they like and organize it into collections they can easily return to anytime

Search

Search helps users quickly find exactly what they’re looking for – whether it’s outfits, people, brands, or items.

Share your outfit

Users can not only share their outfits in the app but also tag individual items, making it easier for others to discover and shop for those pieces – a feature that sets the app apart
